food There will be very few of you out there that know about the predicament that our family was in just three years ago.  At the time, I was trying to find work and there was a three month spell where I had no work, so we became a one income family.  We burned through our savings quickly, and we found ourselves with no food.

If you have ever been in that situation, you know that it is one of the most depressing and desperate situations that you could ever be in.  I guess I had always taken the amount of food that we had for granted, but when you are looking at having nothing, you realize how much you really counted on having a warm meal each day.

At the time, we lived in the city and took the opportunity to take advantage of the Food Bank.  Sure, the food wasn’t the greatest, or what we were used to, but it kept us alive, which is something that I was truly thankful for.

Fast forward three years, and short of some disaster happening, I don’t see us being in that position ever again.  But I was reminded of it today when one of our neighbors came to the door asking if we had toilet paper.  I knew that they were having a hard time of things, but I didn’t realize it was that bad for them.

But things are better for us now, and I found that it was an opportunity for me to help someone that was in the same situation that we were not so long ago.  Besides, since we ran out of food, I have been afraid of that happening again, so I always make sure to have an excessive amount of food on hand – which meant that we had some to share.

Even though it isn’t a permanent situation, I know that I made a difference in their lives and helped someone out today.  I just feel blessed that I had the means to do so.
