Playing at the Beach While I would like to think of myself as an adult most of the time, the truth of the matter is that my inner child is alive and well and loves to play.  During summer, one of the things that I love to do is go down to the beach and play in the sand.

If you were to see me at the beach, you would just think that I am another father playing with his kids.  While this is certainly true, I do tend to gravitate towards the sand with a shovel and a pail in hand, and the truth of the matter is that I would probably play in it whether I had kids in it or not.

Building Something with Sand Reduces my Stress

After playing in the sand for about an hour, I feel refreshed, stress free, and I have a big smile on my face.  This happens every time.  In fact, I would list it on the top ten things that I love about summer and I have been seriously considering putting a sandbox in my house (for me to play in of course ;)  ).

I suppose that playing in the sand reminds me of a simpler time before the stresses of adult life took hold of me.  Personally, I love to build reservoirs with dams – I fill the top one up with the intention of each dam breaking.  And I am happy to do it over and over again.  You might notice me on the beach as the guy with a big grin on his face.

Taking Time Out for Yourself is Healthy

Whether it is playing in the sand, getting our to see a movie, or any other activity, taking time out for yourself is definitely a healthy choice.  Not only will you feel recharged, but you will be more productive at your work, and at home.  So take some time for yourself – you only live once, so you should enjoy it.
