success checklist When it comes to figuring out how to succeed in life, many people will try to tell you it is a big secret.  In fact, in our society, we look at successful individuals and comment how “lucky” they are instead of realizing that it was a journey that made them who they are.  Success boils down to being consistent over time, breaking things up into manageable chunks and taking action.

If you are looking to succeed at business (or whatever endeavour you are pursuing), then you can help yourself out if you do the following three things each day:

Learning

Writing

Doing

Let’s take a look at each of these three things in detail.

Learning

For many people, learning quit the day they finished school.  Most of us would rather sit down in front of the television or do just about anything rather than crack open a book with the intent to learn.  I realize that some of you did have some bad experiences in school, but learning doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to follow the traditional ways that we were taught when we were kids.

In fact, I would suggest that you try other alternatives other than reading books.  Don’t get me wrong, reading books are a good way to learn, but many of us learn other ways as well.  Some examples include books on tape, seminars and videos.  I would encourage you to try out different ways of learning the information including reading, listening and watching and figure out which one works best for you.

Also consider alternative places to learn.  For example, if you commute to work, consider listening to an audio book on the way to work instead of listening to music.  That way you can increase your knowledge without having to find some more time in the day.

The reason that I suggest that you should be learning each and every day is that you will keep your mind sharp and provide yourself with a larger toolset of skills that will help you on the road to success.  It will make your journey to success a whole lot easier.  Try to commit to learning each day – it doesn’t have to be a lot of time: every bit counts.

Writing

Writing every day provides a means for you to put what you have learned down on paper.  You could keep a journal and write by hand, of if you are a little more tech savvy, you could certainly use a computer.  Writing is a great way to work on your communication skills and boost creativity, and as such, should benefit you in many ways.

You don’t need to write for an audience if you don’t feel comfortable, and you could just write for yourself.  But there is an opportunity to share the ideas that you have as well as the lessons you have learned with others through blogging.  Just like I am doing here, you would be able to help others as well as create a rapport with potential customers.  If you do decide to pursue that route, consider how you are going to get your message across and how you, as a reader, would like to see it.  In my case, I tend to tell more stories than writing essay style articles, but you can do what works best for you.

Many people pick a particular time of day to do their writing – find a good time that works for you.  Just make sure that you take the time to do it every day.

Doing

One of the biggest things stopping many people from succeeding in life and in business is that they never take action.  You can study as much as you want and be the expert on anything, but until you take action, nothing will happen.  Some of us (like myself) procrastinate, spin our wheels and really do nothing.  But that is not going to get you anywhere my friend, trust me.

Change you life and take action each day.

I am not asking you to commit to an eight or ten hour day, I am not asking you to work instead of spending time with your family, but instead I am asking this:

Are you willing to take Measurable Actions Each Day?

I hope you said yes.

An action can be small and it can be big.  The point here is that you are doing something and not just being a spectator of your life.  It can be as simple as writing a blog post, reaching out to five past customers and reconnecting with them, it can be making that video you have been dreading.  I am not asking for the world from you, but rather small, measurable actions that when put together will ensure your success.

Start Now.

While you might be able to come up with a million reasons why you can’t do these three things each day, I would encourage you to stop right now.

Take action.

Learn each day.

Sit down and write.

You are on the road to success.

And you will succeed.
