Instead of talking about business, politics or parenting, I thought that a lighter topic would be in order for today. Sometimes I get tired of talking about “business”, so let’s take a day off. It won’t hurt and it will make the blog here a little less serious, because if you know me (I mean “really” know me), you know that I am not serious all of the time.
So, let me ask you this: do you know any other languages?
Personally, I speak English and French, though my French would probably sound pretty clunky. You see, I attended French immersion from Kindergarten to Grade 12, and it is a big part of who I am. I feel that it has helped me to see the world from more than one perspective, which has helped me out throughout my entire life. It has allowed me to do such things as sell a donut to a customer that only spoke French when I worked in a donut shop, to helping a couple pick out an engagement ring. From time to time I even read books, watch movies, and listen to music in French. Sometimes it is nice to escape and take a break from English.
But knowing more than one language has also caused me some problems too. Sometimes I spell words improperly, once in awhile a French word slips out when I am speaking English, and I pronounce the odd English word improperly.
Still, the benefits outweigh the negatives.
Bear in mind, that is one person’s opinion – it is my blog after all.
My question for you is this: do you know any other languages? How has that impacted your life? Please share your thoughts below.
