I grew up in a household with a photocopier as my parents were accountants, so I had plenty of opportunities as a child to see what you could copy with a photocopier. It gave me the opportunity to explore and discover at an early age, but it has been something that I have not done in many years.

That is all about to change.

You see, I recently purchased a Brother Laser All-In-One Colour printer to start experimenting again. I thought I would start it off easy and try photocopying money.

Sounded like a good idea to me.

Before I put the video together I made sure that it would comply with the Bank of Canada’s rules for featuring money in videos – the last thing I needed was to get in trouble from my first of many experiments with my photocopier.

Once that was out of the way, I decided to give it a try. I wasn’t sure what to expect and I thought that since the money we use nowadays is made from polymers instead of paper that there might be some counterfeiting measures in place to stop my photocopier from capturing a clear image.

What would you have guessed might have happened?

It didn’t turn out exactly the way I would have expected – but you’ll have to watch the video to see how it turned out.
